Poem 1: A Lonely Tree

First attempt at this since high school so give me a break..

I am just a single Tree.
A Flower once grew next to me.
Our roots were tangled into one,
My shade was to be her sun.
Drooping low to let her feed,
This flower had mistook my deed.
Took her roots and ripped out mine,
I'll grow them back; I just need time.
Although this flower I truly miss,
I see no other choice but this.

Any thoughts or editorial remarks?  Thanks and be gentle!

  2. I'd like to share a bit of what this poem means to me.

To me it speaks to the problem of codependency in a very intimate relationship. Having suffered through this personally, I can say it's VERY important for both individuals in a relationship to have their own 'roots'. It also speaks to the fact that even if you fall into this trap it's possible to recover your life. It just takes time, but really what other choice is there?

Life is good, don't let a failed relationship bring it down.
