Discovering Sanity: Steve Schultz

Introduction
The very first thing I want to say here is that I have no pretentious misconceptions about myself.  I'm going to be writing this blog occasionally as a means to clear my head and hopefully spur up some thoughtful discussion amongst my friends and family.  I don't have the thought that anyone will ever read this blog unless I ask them to.  This is more for me then anything else.  I think I might need this.

About Me:
My name is Steve Schultz.  There's not much about me that's important for the purposes of this blog.  What I'd like to share is that throughout my life I've been awkward and accident prone.  These two working together have been a challenge to overcome, to say the least.  I find my strength is in my thoughts, they are what keep me together.  Only recently, I've been starting to transition into being an adult.  I of course don't mean by age (I'm 23 now), but I mean in terms of who I am as a person.  I'm more capable of handling responsibility and I'm less insecure.  With the shedding of this insecurity I've been talking to people.  A lot more people then I've usually been able to muster up the confidence for.  I've found in the last year that talking with people and sharing ideas is the best way to learn, form opinions, and discover what kind of person I am.  Now, this is why I made this blog.  Hopefully I can challenge some of your ideas, and vise a versa.  I don't believe I am the supreme thinker of the universe only an average guy with average thoughts just trying to put it all together.

The Blog:
I occasionally have these thoughts that I can't get out of my head.  I need to think through them.  They last for about 15 hours and then they vanish back into fleeting obscurity.  I want to be able to write these thoughts down in a place where I can find them again.  Also, I LOVE stirring up conversation.  If you have any feedback about any of my thoughts positive or negative I'd love to hear it.

Debate does not make me uncomfortable.  I find debate is the stepping stone for all progress both internal (self progress) and external.  Unfortunately, most people find debate unsettling.  If two people have differing opinions they usually get upset with one another if they care enough about the issue.  This often causes rifts in friendships and families.  Debate, instead should be a way to learn and develop yourself. Your opinions are yours.  Hold onto them, they are what make you yourself.  However, if you aren't willing to champion your ideals then you might as well not have them.  Also, if you are so stubborn to believe you are always right, you are probably wrong.. a lot.. Stubborn people are wrong the most because they are unwilling to change their mind when a better, more fitting explanation arises.  However, on the other end of the spectrum are so called 'open minded' people.  Now, I believe this term open minded is misused.  I find high value in having a true 'open mind', however, most people who claim to be open minded just use it as a scapegoat for not having their own opinions and thoughts.  I would like to label myself an opinionated open minded person. This means that I have well thought out opinions, however if someone wants to talk about it I would love to hear them to see if there is folly in my ways.  I don't debate to prove someone wrong, I debate to see if I'm right!

Closing:
I will try my hardest to keep myself out of this blog.  I will only tell personal stories where they are important to explain how a thought came about.  If you have any feedback for me please keep it respectful as I will always do the same for you.  There is no reason to disrespect others because of differing opinions, this is life.

I will also only post when I have something thoughtful to say.  Hopefully, with the blog at my fingertips, I won't forget anymore of my thoughts and together we can all discover our own sanity.
